Ahhhh, organized shelves make me happy! The office supplies shelves organization project was a success. Yay!
Here was my process. One would think that just diving in would be the key to organization but actually I find it’s super helpful to take a step back before diving in to the piles and do a little strategy.
First of all, I took everything off the shelves and I divided all the stuff into three piles.
Then, I assessed Pile #1 and figured out what I would need to purchase in order to organize the items on my shelves.
I figured I would need some stacking trays in order to organize my various blank stacks of paper which were my computer paper, my blank lined paper and scrap paper. Then, I also needed some bins to hold my various computer CDs and DVDs and office supplies (pens, pencils, staples, tape, post-its, etc.).
After making my assessment, I headed to a couple of stores that I figured I would find bins that I’d like: Target and Cost Plus World Market.
I found the black letter stacking trays at Target and I picked up three of them.
Then at Cost Plus World Market I perused all of the baskets and I selected a few dark colored, sturdy baskets for my computer CDs/DVDs and various smaller paper items like check registers, boxes of checks and business cards.
I wanted to make sure I had some splashes of color (because I love color) on my shelves as well so I picked up a few smaller baskets to hold my various office supplies like staples, tape, push pins, etc.
Then, I came home and began putting the “keeper” items into my various bins and back on the shelves.
I’m pretty happy with the result.
For anyone wanting to tackle shelves, I would recommend taking it slowly and when you need a break, take it. There were times when I was getting tired and I simply wanted to shove items into the bins and not organize them since I wouldn’t see them anyway, just so I could get the job done quickly. BUT, I knew I would regret it later and not feel like I was organized.
Take the time you need to get the result you want. It’s totally worth it!
